If rooms held a popularity contest, hands-down, the winner would be…the kitchen. Whether you’re into cooking or just arranging things on a plate, kitchens are the haute place to be. “People, in general, have shown more interest in having big and beautiful kitchens, and the kitchen is acting as an informal gathering place,” says Errol Samuelson, president of Realtor.com. Stylish kitchens deliver not only immediate satisfaction but also at resale. In 2013, homeowners recouped up to 83% of their costs in kitchen remodels, according to a National Association of Realtors survey.
These findings makes sense to us. After all, who wouldn’t like to hang out in a kitchen like this? With its chic black & white palette, luxe soapstone counters, crisp white beadboard cabinets and artsy chalkboard wall, this Shelter Island cottage kitchen is very cool.
Or how about a sleek modern kitchen like this one in a Manhattan loft? Designer Valerie Pasquiou played up the clean modern lines of the soaring ceiling with light colored paint that reflects light. Grey cabinets make stainless appliances less conspicuous while a drop-down bar table crafted of salvaged wood draws the eye in.
While homeowners often obsess over things like appliances and countertops when updating their kitchens, picking the right floor is important, too. Floors should be more than good-looking. They should be durable and easy care, too. Here are two examples that deliver on all counts.
Denver LVS (Dusk color shown here) is a realistic slate visual with unique shaling and soft color variations. Like all of our luxury vinyl sheet flooring, Denver won’t trap dust, pet dander or other allergens; and most spills clean up with gentle soap and water.
Weathered Ridge laminate (Fire color shown here) delivers the beauty of hickory combined with the look of hand rubbed stains. These 8″ planks, embossed in register for natural depth and texture, capture the essence of real hardwood and are eco-friendly. They’re made of 70% recycled content, manufactured with water-based, low VOC ink systems adhesives and finishes; and installed with a formaldehyde-free adhesive system that complies with CARB. Weathered Ridge is also dirt and dust resistant; and easy to maintain with simple vacuuming or dusting.
Today’s kitchens are the hub of the home. So isn’t it time yours really got cookin’?
